Bullpen Works

What are missed calls costing you?

Bullpen Works is a 24/7 receptionist for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies — it answers every call and books the job while the customer's still on the line. Use the numbers below to see what missed calls are actually costing you.

Every unanswered call is a job someone else books. Move the sliders to match your shop and see the number.

Your numbers

Missed calls per week
% of missed calls that were real jobs
Average job value ($)
Close rate when you do answer
Monthly cost of a Bullpen plan ($)

What that means

Revenue lost per month
$0
Recoverable per month
$0
Net monthly gain
$0
That's 2 saved jobs to break even — most shops save that in week one.

Recovered revenue is estimated at a conservative 70% capture rate — not every missed call converts, even with every call answered.

A missed emergency call is a lost $300–$3,000 job. At our entry tier ($300/mo), one saved job covers the fee.

How we calculate this

The math is simple on purpose. Missed calls per week, times 4.33 weeks in a month, times the share that were real jobs, times your average job value, times your close rate gives you revenue lost per month. We apply a conservative 70% capture rate to get recoverable revenue — not every missed call converts, even when someone's there to answer it — then subtract your plan cost for the net gain.

Two numbers matter most: the share of missed calls that were real jobs (not spam, wrong numbers, or calls you'd have lost anyway), and your close rate when you do answer. Pull those from your own call log rather than guessing — a 15-minute walkthrough is enough to get real numbers instead of an industry average.

Common questions

“Is this number exact?”

No — it's a conservative estimate, not a quote. The 70% capture rate assumes some missed calls would never have converted even with an answer; run your own numbers above, then confirm the real figure with a 15-minute walkthrough of your actual call log.

“What counts as a missed call?”

Any call that goes to voicemail, rings out, or gets a busy signal because no one was free to answer — after-hours, during a job, or when the phones are overwhelmed during a surge. Emergency calls (no heat, no cool, a burst pipe) are the highest-cost misses since they go to whoever answers first.

“How is close rate different from capture rate?”

Close rate is how often you win a job once someone answers the phone — a number you already know from your own conversions. Capture rate is the share of that lost revenue we count as recoverable once Bullpen is answering: the calculator uses a conservative 70% rather than assuming every missed call comes back as a booked job.

“Does this account for emergency vs. routine calls?”

Not directly — the calculator uses one average job value across all missed calls. Emergency calls usually run above that average, so a shop mostly missing emergency calls is probably looking at a bigger number than the calculator shows, not a smaller one.

“What if my numbers don't match my gut feeling?”

Trust your call log over your gut — missed calls are easy to undercount until you actually pull the log. Pull your real numbers in a 15-minute walkthrough and we'll run the math together instead of guessing.
